Dinosaur Eggs and Fossils

Well, since we did the study on dinosaurs, we had to make dinosaur eggs and then I had to show him exactly what a fossil was. So we made a leaf fossil. For both projects we use plaster paris. For the egg we actually used a plastic Easter egg and filled it with plaster. We really had fun doing these.

Native American Studies

From Fall of 2007 to about February of 2008 we studied Columbus to the start of America and why we are here and who was here before us but the Indians. So we studies the Indians and their culture as well as their traditions. Here are the craft projects that we did. We did masks, jewelry, letters, baskets etc. All the interesting things Indians might have at their camp. Then we built a diorama of an Indian village.

I found a great curriculum for this. The company is Evan Moore History Pockets.

Christmas Lap Book

For Christmas instead of doing a traditional cute craft projects decided to do a lapbook on different symbols around the world. I wanted the kids to learn more about how Christmas works in other places then just here in the O.C. It was very interesting to find out how different cultures celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The lapbook came from a great company called In the Hands of a Child.

Eat Your Fruit and Vegetables Study

Fruits and Vegetables. Who would of thought that there could be a study on that. Well, how about a study on plants that humans and animals eat. Out project was to make a bowl and then add some fresh fruits and vegetables made from newspaper and water-downed glue. We have a pineapple, cucumber, banana, carrot and 2 strawberries. I think I had more fun doing this one then Vincent did. But it was a great learning experience for him. He learned how to use newspaper and glue in a differnt way. He did enjoy getrting his hands durty!

The curriculum we used is We are using SouthWestern Explore Me and My Body.
